I have been involved in prevention education since 1990 when I worked as a Prevention Specialist for Winnebago County Department of Community Programs. Our primary focus was alcohol and drug prevention. I worked closely with community coalitions and school districts. In 1996 I went to work for the Kimberly Area School District as the Positive Youth Development Coordinator and AODA Coordinator. To put some parameters on this work, we administered the Search Institutes Attitudes and Behaviors Survey. Letting the data guide our decision making, we developed a number of programs focusing on opportunities for students to increase their developmental assets.
After my family moved to the Eau Claire area, I worked in an elementary school as the Partnership Coordinator while going to graduate school. Once I received my Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from UW-Stout, I began working at CESA #10. At CESA #10 I provide consultation to district AODA Coordinators, School Counselors, Gifted and Talented Coordinators, I provide PBIS external coaching and professional learning opportunities for school staff interested in implementing the Professional Learning Community (PLC) model. My prevention roots have served me well in all of professional endeavors.
